Aleia in Second Life

Me, myself and I

SL is a great place to try new things, things that you wouldn't perhaps ever do in RL. So that's why I tried some roleplaying. Never done it before in my life, but just had to find out what it's all about. Sometime in the end of year 2006 I found out the sim called Suffugium and just fell in love with the place at once! In it's description it says that "Suffugium is a dystopian city with cyberpunk influences". And that's what it is... in other words, a rundown cyberpunk city with underground sewers and even dumpsters to dive in. It is a relaxing place to go, and the music even adds up to the athmosphere (usually I don't even have the music turned on but when I'm visiting Suffugium, there's no question of not listening to the music). And, they even have a movie theater (yes, we once watched V for Vendetta together). If you're interested in joining the RP group, IM Arianna Cela. After that you'll get more information on how to create a character.

Me in character at the Suffugium Police Station.

My favourite spot - the bar :D

Sneaky...

Some months later, in the beginning of year 2007 I suddenly found myself in Misty Vale, which is a medieval RP sim. I've always admired the dresses that the ladies wore back at that time! Misty Vale is rather small place compared to some other RP areas. But it has all the necessities that you would want from a RP sim: shops, cathedral, inn, tavern etc... If you explore the sim a bit, you'll soon find places that not everyone knows about (such as the vampires' hideout). When you arrive to the Shadowed Mist sim where the town of Misty Vale is, you can read more about the customs and professions of the people in the medieval age. That really helps you to get started with creating your own RP character (and the options you have are almost endless). If you're interested RPing in this sim IM Serenity Aubret to join or visit this site for more information. I will add pictures from Misty Vale a bit later :)

My celebrity look-alikes

Woot woot, these are my RL celebrity look-alikes from My Heritage. Not sure about Tori Spelling though... well the hair looks the same? And I'm not sure if I really look like Ayumi either. There's a slight resemblance between me, Martine and Priyanka though - we all have rather full lips and round cheeks! I don't understand why I didn't get better results for Faith Hill... 'cause out of these five ladies I'd rather look like her :D

Again, I got the idea for this from Natalia Zelmanov's SL blog!

Get rid of the newbie look

I decided to go back in time and reveal how I started my second life (yes, it's gonna be embarrassing). So, I'll tell you what Aleia looked like in the very beginning! There is nothing wrong with the newbie look... Well actually there is! Let's say it aloud - people think that you're just a newb and a NOBODY if you stick with that awful newbie skin and even more terrible hair! I'm sorry to tell you this, but yes, people are superficial in SL too.

Luckily, even though you wouldn't have any lindens (L$), there is still a way to transform yourself to look more "cool". There are quite a few places that give out free items, and even though you wouldn't ever wear them, it's still a good thing to GRAB THEM ALL (this is my policy on freebies). And this is how you can get your inventory all messed up! Here's a short list of the places that you should visit at least once to see if there something you "need" :
- New Citizen's Plaza (free clothes, and very helpful people)
- Free Dove (lots of clothes, some nice hair too)
- Sarah Nerd's Freebie Paradise (everything free or L$1, has a great variety of clothes, skin and hair)
- GNUbie store (great place, not just for newbs)
- Yadni's Junkyard (lots of free stuff)
- Freebie Warehouse (yes, a good way to load up your inventory, they have over 5000 free items)

In addition, Gurl 6, ETD, Calla and Wilted Rose are just examples of places that give out free hair for new citizens. If you're new to SL and want to know more about getting started, check out Natalia Zelmanov's 'Getting Started in Second Life Guide'.

Here you can see what I looked like in my first weeks in SL (please, don't laugh while I'm here).

Eww!! Here I am with my newbie skin and yellow hair :D

Looks better already - got some new hair and skin!

And better clothing too :D

Ah, how traumatic can it be to see yourself looking like that? If only the fashion police would have caught me in time and none of this would have happened! Why on earth did I even keep these pictures to remind me? Good thing is that the AV improved as time went by (not any draw backs, are there?). Funny thing, the hair colour seemed to stay the same, I really don't know why... And the shape is even nowadays the same as I once created it for myself. Later on in this blog I'll be posting about the do's and dont's of a newbie/NOOB :)

"My Second Life" - the movie

Take a look at this SL mini movie! I got the honor to have a LITTLE role in this project that Douglas Gayeton and Molotov Alva (and a lot more people) were filming in the end on last year. They came across a series of seven video dispatches of the life of a character named Molotov Alva. This here is the first one of the wonderful seven minimovies! It describes how Mr Alva started he's life in SL and basically it's an introduction for the viewers on what the whole film is about. I'm not sure if they're gonna show the rest of the episodes online but I think they're gonna air them somewhere on TV later this Spring (just shoot me if I got it wrong).

'My Second Life - episode 1' has had over 250 000 views and it's been favorited over 800 times since it got online 2nd of March. Wow, I just admire these guys. Really, just take a look at it yourself, it really is a quality clip!

Let the blogging begin!

Ok. I'm not sure if this was a good idea, to create a blog about my digital self... but I decided to give it a try! At least then I can say that I tried it and failed miserably! For giving me such a boost of inspiration, I just have to thank Natalia Zelmanov (also known as slnatalia), a girl whose blog I've been reading quite a while already (there should be more tutorials on building for muppets like me). Anything that you may come across with here is just simply based on MY experiences in a virtual world called Second Life (I won't tell you anything about my first life except my age and nationality, so don't bother asking). If you haven't tried SL yet, it'll be more than interesting for you to read about things that are possible to do there (such as being a little siamese kitty for starters). It'll be fun to see how many or FEW of you find your way here. TTYL.
